Lingnan University shows innovative elderly care products at Hong Kong Electronics Fair
Lingnan University participated in the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) & InnoEX, a platform showcasing innovative solutions and Asia's most anticipated I&T event, held from 13 to 16 April 2025 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
A highlight was Lingnan University’s Gerontechnology project display, sharing the success of knowledge transfer and demonstrating how gerontechnology can improve older adults’ quality of life. Students from the Master of Science in Health Analytics and Management (HAM) programme also presented an invention in the startup zone, which they have designed to address dementia, using technology to ease the burdens of caregivers.
The "Echo Link" smart necklace, designed by three HAM students, was the first runner-up in the Gerontech Incubation Lab-cum-Design Competition held at Lingnan University in the 2024-25 academic year. Demonstrating elderly care through technological innovation, standout features include location detection and proactive accident prevention. Beyond product development for smart elderly care, the team aims to create a new ecosystem, using technological devices to enable older adults to live independently and safely in a dementia-friendly society that provides active support and encourages family interdependence.
The students stated that participating in the Hong Kong Electronics Fair provided valuable feedback on the necklace and the opportunity to meet other startup entrepreneurs, which has bolstered their confidence and paved the way for potential collaborations. This underscores Lingnan University's commitment to driving innovation in elderly care.
